Home Visit Physiotherapy

For patients with reduced mobility, home-visit physiotherapy brings assessment and treatment into your own home, reducing the barrier of travelling and allowing training that reflects your real daily environment. Availability is arranged case by case.

For a home visit we first check the address, the home environment and how you move around, then explain the timing and scope that can be arranged. WhatsApp us to ask or book.

What is home-visit physiotherapy?

Home-visit physiotherapy is assessment and treatment provided in your own home rather than at the clinic. A registered physiotherapist travels to you, so movement, transfers and daily tasks can be assessed in the actual environment where you live, and exercises can be practised using the furniture, stairs or equipment you already use every day.

Who home visits may suit

Home visits are usually considered when travelling to a clinic is difficult or not currently realistic. This does not mean everyone in these situations needs a home visit — suitability depends on your condition, safety and goals, and we are happy to discuss whether a home visit or clinic visit is more appropriate.

  • Recovering from surgery such as joint replacement
  • Reduced mobility after stroke or a fall
  • Frail or elderly patients with difficulty travelling
  • Wheelchair users or those needing assistance to leave home
  • Neurological conditions affecting movement or balance
What we assess in your home environment

Beyond the usual physical assessment of movement, strength and pain, a home visit lets us look at practical factors such as how you get in and out of bed or a chair, stair access, flooring and lighting, bathroom safety, and whether furniture or existing aids support or hinder your movement. This helps us give advice that fits your actual living space, not a generic setup.

What a home visit may involve

A typical visit may include a review of your symptoms and progress, hands-on treatment where appropriate, guided exercise using items already in your home, and practical advice on transfers, positioning or fall prevention. The exact combination depends on your assessment and how you respond over time, rather than a fixed routine applied to everyone.

Personalised goals and active rehabilitation

Goals are set with you and may include walking more safely at home, managing stairs, dressing independently, reducing carer support for certain tasks, or building confidence to eventually attend the clinic. We agree a home exercise routine that you — and where relevant, a carer or family member — can help continue between visits.

Limitations, safety and when medical review is needed

Home visits do not replace emergency care, and not every piece of clinic equipment can be replicated at home. If assessment raises concerns outside our scope, such as signs of infection, an uncontrolled medical condition, or symptoms suggesting a more urgent problem, we will advise you to seek medical review. New severe pain, sudden weakness or numbness, chest pain, breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness, or a fall with suspected fracture need urgent medical attention rather than a routine home visit.

Not automatically. Our clinic is in Yau Ma Tei, and home-visit availability depends on your district, travel time and scheduling. Please contact us with your area so we can confirm whether a visit is practical before booking.

Not entirely. We bring portable equipment suited for home use, but some clinic-based equipment cannot be replicated at home. The physiotherapist adapts the assessment and exercises to what is safe and practical in your home, and may recommend a clinic visit if certain equipment or facilities are needed.

There is no fixed number that applies to everyone. This depends on your condition, goals, progress and how you respond to treatment. We review this with you regularly rather than committing to a set course in advance.

Not necessarily. Suitability depends on your specific condition, safety at home and clinical needs, not travel difficulty alone. Some conditions are better managed at the clinic or need urgent medical assessment first. We can discuss your situation with you to help decide the most appropriate option.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let us know at least one working day (24 hours) in advance where possible. WhatsApp is our preferred channel for this; you can also call us.

WhatsApp us to book — it is our preferred channel, and we will confirm your appointment time directly. You can also call us, which is useful for urgent pain or a schedule change.
